Insight Guides Photography Competition in collaboration with The Singapore Sun Festival 2008
Think you could be a travel photographer?
Calling all amateur and professional photographers – this is your chance to demonstrate your creative skills with a camera. Insight Guides in collaboration with the Singapore Sun Festival is inviting entries for a regional photography competition organized in conjunction with the Singapore Sun Festival 2008.
The winner will receive a travel photography commission from Insight Guides worth approximately S$8,000! Entries will be judged by a panel of leading photography professionals, chaired by Hans Hoefer, founder of Insight Guides.
Terms and Conditions
The theme of the 2008 competition is, “Urbanscapes” - Culture, People, Architecture and Life in Asia.
Entry and eligibility: a) The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers alike apart from employees of APA Publications and IMG Artists, their agents or members of their families. Entrants must be aged 18 or over at the date entries are submitted. b) By entering the competition entrants agree to these terms and conditions: i) All photographs submitted must have been taken since 1 January 2008; ii) All entries must be received by 5 October 2008, Sunday; iii) All image submissions to the Insight Guides Photography Competition must be in digital format, submitted either online through www.singaporesunfestival.com or mailed in a CD-ROM. Photographic slides and prints are ineligible and may only be submitted as visual reference. iv) All CD-ROMs must be sent to Insight Guides Photography Competition, APA Publications, 38 Joo Koon Road, Singapore 628990. v) entries must bear the correct postage. They are invalid if they arrive any later than the first post on the closing date; vi) Proof of posting will not constitute proof of delivery and no responsibility will be accepted for lost, damaged, illegible, delayed or mislaid entries; vii) Digital images must be 180 – 300 dpi in resolution and minimum pixel size should be 1993 x 3000 pixels. Each image submitted online should be no larger than 10mb in JPEG format; viii) Each entry must be clearly submitted with the entrant’s name, address, phone number, email address, date of birth, caption and place and date when taken.; ix) Images submitted should not be entered for any other photography competition; x) Entrants must own copyright in all entries and by entering this competition, entrants warrant that their entries do not infringe the rights of any third party; xi) No purchase is necessary; xii) Entrants may submit a maximum of three (3) photos each.
Use of materials: a) Entrants agree that the APA Publications shall have the right, but not the obligation, to exihibit and reproduce, and authorize others to reproduce, the winning entries for all publicity and promotional purposes connected to the competition, including exhibitions and calenders. c) APA Publications and IMG Artists shall try to ensure that all material used is credited with the entrant’s name.
Adjudication: a) The winner will be chosen by the panel of judges led by Hans Hoefer, founder of Insight Guides. b) The finalists will be notified by post, email or telephone after the closing date; not later than 10 October 2008. The Publisher and IMG Artists reserve the right to publish the names of the winners. c) The top 10 finalists' works will be exhibited by print at Borders Wheelock from 17 October 2008 to 26 October 2008. d) The top 3 winners and the winner of the People’s Choice contest will be announced at Borders Wheelock on the 26 October 2008, Sunday. e) No correspondence will be entered into. No purchase is necessary. No cash or other alternative to the prizes will be available. The decision of the judges shall be final.
Prizes for the competition are as follows:
1st prize: Commission from the publisher of Insight Guides to photograph an Asian travel destination selected by the publisher, worth approximately S$8,000. The resulting photographs may be selected for inclusion in an Insight Guide but the selection and inclusion shall be at the sole discretion of the publisher.
1st runner up: Nikon D40 Kit worth S$888
2nd runner up: Nikon COOLPIX worth S$399.
No cash alternative to be made. APA Publications, IMG Artist and Nikon will not be liable in any way should circumstances beyond its reasonable control prevent a prize from being taken up by a winner or interfere with a winner's enjoyment of the prize.

Be a part of this exciting challenge. Share with us your insights into life in Asia in the 21st century – its culture, people, landscapes and atmosphere. The Singapore Sun Festival is inviting entries for a regional travel writing competition organized in conjunction with the Singapore Sun Festival 2008. This year, your entry will need to begin with “As far as the eye can see……”
The winning entry will be chose by a panel of respected authors, literature authorities, and the Singapore Sun Festival organizers.
Terms and conditions
1.Entries to begin with “As far as the eye can see………. “ and is to be submitted as prose only, not poetry, and may reflect any perspectives on your travel in Asia.
2.Entries must be accompanied by a completed Entry Form, download the form here.
3.Entrants can be unpublished or published writers.
4.Entries must be original, in English, not previously published and not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission.
5.Entries can be uploaded online on www.singaporesunfestival.com as a Word Document attachment. This may result in the loss of double-spacing but WILL NOT result in disqualifications.
6. Maximum words is 800 excluding the title. Entries exceeding this word count will be disqualified. With the exception of the title and word count of which should appear on top right-hand corner of each page.
7. Entrants must create a code name on the submission, in the top right-hand corner of each page. The entrant’s name shall only appear on the entry form. This form will only be revealed to the judges once the winner has been chosen ensuring impartiality
8. Closing date for receipt of all entries is 12 midnight Singapore time (GMT +8) on 5 October 2008,Sunday.
9. Only one entry per person.
10. Employees, family members, agents or associates of the Singapore Sun Festival may not enter the competition.
11. The judges’ decision is binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
12. The Short List of 8 entries will be published on the Singapore Sun Festival Website on 17 October 2008.
13.The winner will be announced on 26 October 2008 at Borders, Wheelock Place.

1st Prize Cash prize of S1500 and book vouchers from Borders worth S$350
1st runner up Book vouchers from Borders worth S$250
2nd runner up Books vouchers from Borders worth S$150
5 x Consolation Prizes Book vouchers from Borders worth S$50 each
